A jump in a suit opposite a no-suit bid is a limiter showing a long suit, promising about 20 to 22 points in the combined hands opposite a minimum partner. The suit will have at least six cards at the two level, seven at the three-level, eight at the four-level and so on. These requirements can be lessened if partner has already shown some length in the suit e.g. 1NT - 3
need be only six cards, since opener promised at least two diamonds.
The long suit jump usually shows a single-suited hand, but may also show a long second suit. Continuations are systemic (bearing in mind that if the jump bid is 2
or above and it is the first suit bid we have made, then the auction is disturbed).
