Neutral auctions can be disturbed by the opposition if they bid 1NT or higher. We can also disturb the auction, in one of five ways:

  • by passing after partner has called
  • by redoubling for rescue
  • by opening or overcalling 2 or above
  • by bidding in the neutral window without first bidding 2 or 2.
  • by our first call being a takeout double of one of a major

Auctions remain disturbed unless and until we agree a fit or set a suit.
