My objective with Chilli was to build a small and complete tournament bidding system. Looking at the size of this website, you may think that I have failed with the 'small' bit. But consider more carefully the 'complete' bit.

On the tournament circuit, the convention cards often resemble the small print on a credit card agreement. Even those pairs that claim to play, for instance, 'very simple Acol' are in truth playing a complex system. There are many singular situations, especially in competitive bidding, where pairs either do not know what they are doing or they are relying on years of partnership understanding, or a system book, or reference to some Acol tome, or application of general bridge fashion, or some combination of all of these.

Chilli, on the other hand, is defined completely here. Our belief is that there is no bidding situation that can arise that cannot be resolved with certainty by applying a Chilli rule.

Maybe I should say 'hope' rather than 'belief' as holes have appeared in the past. But I am sure we are very close to completeness. And if a hole ever does appear, we will look to fix it not with a special rule but with an improvement to some existing big rule.
